Specialising in HR, we’re often asked by our clients to help across a number of HR related areas, from gross misconduct to dress code queries. Many of these questions are relevant for all businesses and industries across the UK, so to help you, we’ve created our Q&A section to help businesses understand HR and how they can tackle any problems that may arise.
Can I prevent a woman from wearing hijab at the office?
The word “hijab” describes the act of covering up generally but is often used to describe the headscarves worn by Muslim women. The type most commonly worn in the West covers the head and neck but leaves the face clear. You should agree to this unless there is a health and safety risk. A refusal without reasonable justification could lead to a claim of indirect discrimination, and we’ll be publishing our blog on appearance and dress codes at the work place next week!
